Cash-Strapped Cities Look To Tax Churches


So much to say on this issue:



1. Sounds like these churches want to have their cake and eat it too. They deny the constituti­onality of separation when it comes to imposing religion on others, but embrace separation when it might cost them.



2. I've long thought that church sanctuarie­s used exclusivel­y for worship and charity activities should be tax exempt, but church businesses like schools, day-cares, property rentals, etc. where the church competes with an unfair advantage against commercial or private businesses should be taxed at the same rate as any other business.
